I SMELL A REPEAT FOR MY LAKERS

Source:
ESPN.COM

Odom, Lakers agree on deal

Free agent forward Lamar Odom will return to the Los Angeles Lakers, an NBA source said Thursday.

Odom will sign a four-year contract, with the fourth year at the team option, the source said. One source with knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com the four-year deal is worth $33 million if the Lakers exercise the final year of the contract.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak declined comment and Odom's agent, Jeff Schwartz, did not immediately return a voice mail.

Odom's signing was the most significant free agent move left to play out this summer, as it restores a pivotal piece to the Lakers' championship team. The versatile, 6-foot-9 Odom averaged 11.3 points and 8.2 rebounds during the regular season and 12.3 points and 9.1 rebounds during the playoffs, despite injuring his back in a fall during the Western Conference semifinals against Houston.

Odom's destination for the 2009-10 season had remained in doubt after the Lakers pulled an initial offer of a reported $27 million guaranteed over three years off the table. As the other franchises with significant salary cap space spent their money elsewhere, the Miami Heat emerged as a serious contender for Odom's services. On Tuesday, the Portland Trail Blazers also got into the mix, offering a five-year, $40 million deal, according to a source close to Odom.

With Dwyane Wade publicly lobbying for Odom to rejoin him in South Beach, the Heat offered a deal worth up to $34 million over five years. The fact that Odom didn't jump at it despite the cooled tone of negotiations with the Lakers indicated his desire to return to Los Angeles, and the longer the saga dragged out the greater the chances seemed that he would be back.

With Odom back in the fold the Lakers would have their top five scorers and top four rebounders from the 2009 championship on the roster to begin the title defense. The only significant loss is forward Trevor Ariza, who left to sign a contract with the Houston Rockets after the Lakers signed former Rocket Ron Artest.

AT&T and Barnes & Noble will announce a new deal today that gives customers free AT&T Wi-Fi access at B&N stores across the country. The goal, on B&N’s side of the equation, is to tout free access to its apps and of course its eBook library, which now stands at over 700,000 titles. Steve Riggio, CEO of Barnes & Noble, had this to say:

Barnes & Noble pioneered the concept of retail stores as community centers. By providing no-fee Wi-Fi access, we are not only meeting our customers’ needs, but extending the sense of community that has always been in our stores. This is a natural progression of our digital strategy to provide customers with more choices in how, when and where they want to read.

SAADIQ ARE THOSE TOM FORD'S?

One Thursday night I had a great date. It was me, my stir fry chicken (i'm a beart on the four burners) and the TV. I was flipping through the channels when I came across my boy Rafael Saadiq performing in this strange venue. Well strange to me but I later found out it was a music series PBS was producing called the Artists Den. The scene totally went with Saadiq's new sound and look. Slim shark suit with the black "retro" frames with the backdrop of the HARVARD CLUB.

I can smell the cigar and brand in the air if I close my eyes. I'm totally romanticising the entire show but it was a great show if you like live music, energetic crowd, "special backup singers" and some old Ton"y" "i" "e" classics. He is one of my favorite songwriters. He is a clip from the Artist Den Performance and then follow the yellow brick road to some of Saadiq's greatest hits:

Delorean and MJ

This one is from D Bax's twitter. Hilarious video from REPO TV show. This guy looks a little mentally challenged. He is the champ though because he actually owns a car that goes down in history as on of the most iconic vehicles in MOTION PICTURE HISTORY as well as can do some pretty ill MJ moves and kick some ass (literally) while doing it. Video shows a parent's true love. I know they bought him that car in 88 and he hasn't left that decade since. Peep "the way you make me feel" outfit.

TOMORROW, BETTER YOU BETTER ME

This is a really sappy song but this what I was feeling in my head. I had one of those weekends that was just so all over the place but in a good way. Hope these lyrics are read and maybe one thing can be taken out of this song.

lyrics by Siedah Garrett

I hope tomorrow will bring better you, better me
I know that we'll show this world we got more we
could me
So you should never give up on your hopes and
your dreams
You gotta get up, get out, get into it,get it on to
se strong
If we try,we can fly to a whole 'nother place
All we need is belief and a smile on our face
We can go anywhere we want, any road we decide to
Take
And we're never, never, never to far from
tomorrow today

CHORUS:
If tomorrow is light in a place where there's none
Then know that now is the time to have faith in us
All
Ya know we're all in this world and we all can]belong
We gotta get up, get out, get over it, get it on to
be
strong

If we try, we can fly to a place in the sun
All we need is precious dreams and a friend we can
trust
We can go (any) where we want, any road tahat we can
take
And we're never too far from tomorrow today

CHORUS:
Ev'rybody say tomorrow is just for to share
And we're gonna send our message of love
out ev'rywhere
There's a promise of love tomorrow has
Something special and it's something we know will
last and last

Cause we're never far away, never
Ond thing I can always se sure of
Far away, no never the promise of today

If we try, we can fly to a place in the sun
All we need is precious dreams and a friend we can
trust
We can go where we want, any road we can take
And we're never too far from tomorrow today

Ev'ry body say tomorrow is just for us to share
And we're gonna send our message of love out
ev'rywhere
There's a promiise of love tomorrow has
Something special and it's something we know will last
and last

Ev'ry body say tomorrow is just for us to share
And we're gonna send a menssage of love out
ev'rywhere
There's promise of love tomorrow has
Something special special and it's something we know
will
last and last

Cause we're never far away, never
One thing I can always be sure of
Far away, no never the promise of today

Amma has programs scheduled to begin in the next city, thus there is the necessity for her to travel on the day following Devi Bhava. Amma does not wish to discourage her children or limit the darshans, it is simply because of the need for Amma to leave by a certain hour the following day that we must ask everyone to get their tokens early.

Public Program Events

We are truly delighted to have Amma's physical presence in the N. America again this year. She will be visiting two cities - San Ramon, CA and Dearborn, MI. There will be free public programs in these two cities(San Ramon, Michigan) and two retreats.
On most public program days, there are two programs each day i.e. during the day (at 10:00 am) and the evening (at 7:30 pm). During these programs, anyone could come to see and meet Amma and get her darshan. Darshan means receiving a blessing in the form of a compassionate hug from Amma. Devi Bhava programs (ceremony in celebration of the Divine Mother) ccur once in most cities on the last day of the program. Devi Bhava program starts at 7:00pm. Please find more details below.
Numbered tokens for entering the darshan line to meet Amma are distributed one hour before each program, with priority given to those meeting Amma for the first time.
The events during the public program days are:
1. Morning Programs
Darshan* ------ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Darshan is Amma's blessing that comes in the form of a compassionate hug.
A delicious vegetarian lunch is served and snacks are available for a modest fee.
2. Evening Programs
Spiritual programs ------ 7:30 pm - end
The evening program starts with spiritual talk (either by Amma and/or one of Amma's senior disciples or devotees).
This is followed by devotional singing (bhajans).
Following this darshan continues for those that did not receive darshan in the morning.
Dinner ------ 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm
Dinner is served every evening for a modest fee at 6:00 pm (before the programs begin) and at 10:00 pm (after the bhajans). For Devi Bhava nights please see below.
3. Devi Bhava Programs
Atma Puja ------ 7:00 pm
Atma Puja is a ceremony done for spiritual advancement of the world.
Darshan* ------ 8:00 pm - end
Darshan* continues until the last person is received by Amma.

Dinner is served for a modest fee.
We request that you respect the Indian traditions by dressing conservatively and avoid wearing sleeveless shirts, tight clothes or short skirts.

:(

http://eats.com/eats-editorials/foodie-news/finding-glory-in-gluttony-20090702865/

There exists a sport that defies the most primitive of expectations. A physical challenge in which a 98-pound woman can not only beat a muscular man twice her size, but can annihilate him to embarrassing degrees. A sport for which 40,000 fans abandon their friends, their families and their barbecues every Independence Day to cheer on their favorites in a time-honored face-off at Coney Island. This sport is competitive eating, and it’s intense.

What? Competitive eating is strictly defined as “an activity in which participants compete against each other to consume large amounts of food in a short amount of time.” (No, the last time you were drunk at Taco Bell’s fourth meal doesn’t count.) Though records of gluttonous competitive behavior date back to the 13th century, organized competitive eating began at the first annual Nathan’s Hot Dogs competition. It was held on July 4, 1913 between four immigrants who ate hot dogs to determine who had the most patriotic spirit (the winning number was a paltry 13). The sport has grown considerably since then and although there are many local competitions held each year, such as at iconic neighborhood restaurants or fairs, the official sport of competitive eating is regulated by Major League Eating, formerly the IFOCE (International Federation of Competitive Eating). This body officiates over their “Major League Eating” events, holding about 100 every year, and tries “to maintain a safe environment for all events, while also seeking to create a dynamic and enjoyable fan experience.” It was founded in 1997 by brothers Richard and George Shea. The Sheas were previously in charge of publicity for Nathan’s Hot Dogs and having successfully established massive attendance and media presence for the annual Coney Island competition, they turned their attentions towards building a comprehensive network of competitive eating events. Since the MLE’s inception, competitive eating has become a televised event on ESPN, Nintendo has released a Wii game devoted to the sport and public acclaim has skyrocketed. For more information, please visit the official MLE website or read Ryan Nerz’s memoir, “Eat This Book: A Year of Gorging and Glory on the Competitive Eating Circuit.”

Who? In competitive eating, it’s not nearly as important how much you can eat as it is how quickly you can eat it. Thus, thinner participants are actually at an advantage. Because they have less fat surrounding their stomachs, it becomes easier for it to stretch and accommodate massive quantities of food in a short period of time. However, there is no demonstrated physical ideal for competitive eating. Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, ranked fifth in the nation, consumed more than 10% of her body weight, when she ate 11 pounds of cheesecake in nine minutes, despite only weighing 105 pounds. Likewise, 63-year-old Richard LeFevre, ranked eighth, ate one and a half gallons of Stagg Chili in ten minutes, but weighs in at only 132 pounds. On the other extreme are eating greats like Ed “Cookie” Jarvis who weighs 380 lbs, and ate an entire pizza pie in three minutes. It’s impossible to determine how many competitive eating champions there are, because innumerable events are held independently from the MLE. However, for the top 20 current competitors and their achievements, please consult these rankings.

When/Where? Well, if you want to participate in competitive eating, there are a range of foods that may suit your fancy. (Although I doubt many competitive eaters are doing it for the taste.) As mentioned, about 80 to 100 events are held by the MLE each year, ranging from deep fried asparagus to hamburgers to chicken feet to hard-boiled eggs. The competitions are spread throughout the country and each has its own stipulations regarding qualifying and entrance for the meet. A simple online search will reveal many options or you can check out the archives of the official ICOCE website. Some of our personal favorites include the Krystal Square Off III World Hamburger Eating Championships in Chattanooga, TN, the Jalapeno Eating Championship in Dallas, TX and (for a strangely healthy spin) the b. good Garlicky Green Eating Competition in Cambridge, MA.

Why? Well, why compete in any sport? Glory and D-list celebrity status; for the competition and the thrill of winning. (And most competitors will also tell you that they simply love to eat.) Though most events do award a monetary prize to the biggest glutton, one is likely unable to sustain themselves on their winnings alone and most have side jobs. As Sonya Thomas, who is a manager at Burger King when she isn’t competing, explained to the San Francisco Chronicle, “I love doing it because I can win. That’s my hobby. Makes me happy.” And of course, there is always the Holy Grail of competitive eating to achieve, the Mustard Yellow Money Belt. Currently held by Joey Chestnut, it is awarded annually to the winner of Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, the Superbowl of the Major League Eating world.

How? Just like Derek Jeter or Tiger Woods, competitive eaters must train their bodies to successfully engage in their challenges. The stomach must be able to expand to considerable degrees and therefore, athletes practice by consuming massive quantities of water and voluminous but low calorie foods like lettuce over short periods of time. (Most competitors focus on maintaining a relatively lean body weight.) They may also engage in short time trials to increase their speed in cramming and swallowing and to learn how to exercise muscle control to accommodate their intake. Meanwhile, cardio regimens of running or biking facilitate respiratory control, as breathing plays a huge role in competitive eating. A multitude of strategies are favored by the competitors during the events such as dunking starches (e.g. hot dog buns) in water to make them easier to swallow, or bobbing up and down to facilitate the passage of food down the esophagus. The biggest strategy debate considers the days leading up to the competition- some competitors swear by fasting to whet the appetite and empty the belly, while others claim it is necessary to eat a huge meal to stretch out the stomach.

Think you’ve got what it takes? As long as you’re over 18, you are eligible to join the network of Major League Eaters. An application is accessible here, and you will be informed about upcoming events. But, heed our warning. You may think you can eat; you’re probably wrong. For many, their first competition is also their last. We will not hold your hair back as you hunch over the toilet. With that, good luck.

ok ok one last time

Letter to Michael

RIP Uncle Spencer Tracey: If you are reading this above is just a little piece of your heart you left for me.

Dear Michael,

I know this maybe sound a little crazy but you don't know me but you have had such a profound effect on my life. As I watched your memorial service on CNN I was really touched by all of the wonderful things people had to say about you. All of the songs, the words and the tears. I even shed a tear for you myself.

You have been a friend and in my life for so long. We first met on December 2, 1983. It was the day after my sixth birthday. Your video Thriller was going to be broadcast on TV so my Uncle Spencer Tracey (yeah i know was named after the actor) who was living in the Bronx at the time gathered all of us (My mom, dad and brother) at his home and we watched your movie together. I remember the lights went off and I wa so scared. The voices, the howls, the monster was all new and scary to me. I hated it so much. At the end of the show I vowed (if a 6 year old can do that) to never watch it again. Funny but when the video came out I begged my uncle to buy it for me.

We watched it again and I think I was even more scared because I knew what was going to happen. I was torturing myself for what? At the time I had no idea but after about 10 more times I fell in love with you music and you Michael Jackson. I wanted to know everything about you. My uncle happened to be one of the most respected DJ'S/Collectors so he taught me everything I wanted to know about you. At the time he owned all of your work from The Jackson 5, The Jackson's, and Michael Jackson. I listened to all of the grooves and rhythms. Your lyrics were so infectious. Even the songs you didn't write it seems like you took on every song as a challenge to make it your own and to make me feel your pain or the pain of others. The Heartache, the hunger, and the frustration.

Because of you I fell in love with music. I thank you for bringing me closer to my uncle (I love you Uncle Spence and I MISS YOU) and I thank you for helping me become a fan of real heart felt soulful music. I feel like you and I could have gotten closer but thank you for leaving me with all of these wonderful gifts. Your music will never leave my brain.

PETER KING YOU ARE AN IDIOT

"This guy is a pervert and a child molester.....he died and he had some talent...there is nothing good about this guy.....may have been a good singer and did some dancin'"

Peter King decided to produce this video and go on a rant about Michael Jackson. Of course there is too much media coverage about Michael Jackson but it was the same when Elvis Preseley died. What if Brad Pitt would have died there would probabaly be a cable channel created that would be all about Brad Pitt. His movies, Peaches, Plums, etc.

Anyway....Peep the video below and also check below Michael Jackson's Charity work.

LOON

So about a few months ago I was @ Make my Cake Bakery on 116th in Harlem ordering a cupcake and I heard someone say "brother are these cakes very good?" I immediately turned around and said yes and when I realized who it was I shocked. It was Loon the rapper. He looked like he had just come from the local mosque. I thought to myself "this guy must think I am muslime as well." (Just like everyone else) Not that there is anything wrong with that but anyway.....It was good to see him looking healthy and I am glad to see him away from the BAD BOY CURSE. Enjoy the video of the new to the old Loon:

The Jacksons version

A 1976 hit for The Jackson 5 now known as The Jacksons after their departure from Motown nearly two years prior. Though the move made it easy for the brothers to write and produce their own material, they spent a couple of years under the production and direction of fellow soul pioneers Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff and under their own label, Philadelphia International. This was one of the songs that the producers backed the young men on and for lead singer Michael professionally, he had shown a lot of vocal growth. Marlon, However, had a back up part. As the song reached a bridge, Gamble & Huff had 18-year-old Michael hitting notes and bridges that he probably would've been restricted to sing in at Motown. Michael's breakdown possibly helped the song reach #6 R&B, #28 Pop and #1 UK. In fact, it was a milestone overseas for the Jacksons because it was the family unit's first #1 single in the UK. A year later, the Jacksons left Philadelphia International for Epic where their greatest success was near. Michael has said that this is one of his favorites during this period and that he was surprised that it wasn't a bigger hit.

Below is the Jackson's original version of this song and after that Ladae introduces a new style to this groove.

My Favorite White Boy Raps from back in the day

Is it me or the caucasian rappers aren't as dope as the used to be? In the 80's and 90's the white rappers could flow and really "kick some funly dope verses". Nowadays there is really only Eminem and i guess Asher Roth who really sounds like Em but with totally different subject matter.......Also there are rappers cage and aesop rock who i don't listen to.

Here is a timeline of the white rappers in HIP HOP History---Interesting Timeline
